"Your objective will be to protect the citizens as they evacuate. There will be three guards. The Front guard, the Stationary troops will positioned there. Middle Guard, where the majority of you will be. Finally, Rear Guard, where the Elite troops will be placed. You will be assigned to groups by your Squad Leaders......" You didn't listen to the instructor after that. All you could hear was your heartbeat. Your (e/c) eyes widened in absolute fear. You had to fight Titans. Titans. The very things that prey on Humanity. 

    You knew you had to face them but it was too soon. Would you die today? You turned to Mariana who was calm. Would she and Flynn die? Would all your friends in the 104th die?

    "Dismissed and I wish you the best of luck!" you jumped. Hell was starting to break loose. 

    "We're all going to die!" 

    "What do we do?!"

    "I'm too young to die!" 

    Clenching your fist, you cast one look at your comrades. You walked away from the mess to find your team leader. You ignored the screams and fear of your comrades. Mariana and Flynn followed close behind you. 

    "I need to find team leader James." Flynn said. You stopped and spun around on your heels. Mariana looked down on the ground. 

    "Don't die on me, okay?" You lightly punched him in the arm. He chuckled lightly as he ruffled your hair in return. Mariana looked up at Flynn. For the first time in five years, you saw tears escape her blue eyes. 

    "I'm going to leave now." You said. "Let's go, Mariana." You held her hand and pulled her away. She stopped and looked back at Flynn. 

    "What is it?"

    "Nothing." she said. She walked ahead of you. You turned around to see Flynn regard Mariana sadly before walking away. Would this be the last time that you saw your friends? Both of your friends backs were turned and you were in the middle. 

    Why did the Titans attack now?


    "Any questions?" your team leader asked. There was silence. "Very well. Be prepared to move out." 

    "Do you think we'll live?" the boy with blond hair next to you asked, he graduated around thirty and you didn't really know him besides the fact that he hung out with Mina. You looked up from your gear. "There's Titans everywhere and the chance of living doesn't look too good." he said.

    "I don't know." you pulled out your sword. "It depends on how we fight and how soon the citizens get out." you clapped him on the back. "Stop being pessimistic. The better question is, 'How good are your Titan killing skills?'" 

    "Cadets, get ready to move out!" You smiled. 

    "If we defeat the Titans today, it a step closer to Wall Maria." You turned to the boy next to you. "Smile. You don't want to die with a frown now?" with that you leapt off the building and followed your team leader. 

    "(Lastname!) Mesik!" Seth yelled. "Titan to our left. Distract it while Vien, Clo and I take it out." 

    "Yes, sir!" you turned and stopped on a building. You faced the back of the Titans head as it walked on to the walls. "Oi, tall and ugly!" The Titan turned around slightly. "Your face looks like a pigs ass!" The Titan reached an arm out towards you. You had enough time to jump out of the way. "You missed, stupid!" 

    "Follow me, you stupid piece of meat!" The boy, Mesik, yelled. The Titan tried to crush him and he ducked just in time. Where was Seth. He should kill it already. 

    "Over hear, butt face!" you yelled. The Titan slammed its fist down only a few feet away from you. You felt the debris fly everywhere. A piece of the roof tile hit you. You stumbled and fell. The Titan grabbed your foot and was about to pull you into it's mouth. You screamed and then you heard the sound of wires. A sickening sound could be heard as you felt something warm hit your face. You open your eyes to find your jacket had Titan blood on it. The Titan was slumped on the side of the building, dead. You squeaked and pulled your leg from it's hand. 

    "Smile," Mesik pulled you up. "You don't want to die with a frown now?" he mocked. You growled and stood back up. 

    "Thank you." you nodded at Seth. He nodded back.

    "Another Titan a few yards from us. It's a fifteen meter!" You turned your head to see it. It was walking towards you with blood decorating it's mouth. Whose blood could that have been? You didn't want to think about it.

    "Another one to our right, sir! It's a fifteen meter!" Vien yelled. 

    "Split up!" Seth yelled. Vien and Clo went to take care of the one on the right. "(Lastname!) Mesik! Let's kill this Titan." you nodded and followed Seth. The Titan, like the others, had a creepy face. It seemed like it was smiling and it's dead eyes stared right into your soul. You growled remembering what Titans had taken away. 

    Landing in front of it, you yelled: "Look here, you piece of shit!" The Titan ran at you. You dodged as it tried to crush you. Was this all you could do? You would be dead at this rate! The Titan reeled it's hand back and made a grab for you. You sliced down, cutting it's fingers off. The Titan yelled in pain. You took the chance to start slicing the Titan up. You made a cut on it's stomach and arced back to make one on it's shoulder. The Titan yelled and tried to swat you. You landed on a building again. Mesik distracted the Titan this time. A few more moments and Seth could strike. 

    Mesik jumped but made the mistake of aiming his wires for the neck. The Titan turned around and swatted him in the air. It missed luckily. He went flying into a building. He stood back up a bit dazed and attempted to kill the Titan agin. That idiot! The Titan was ready and swatted him, this time hitting him. He flew into the streets below. 

    "Mesik!" You yelled. He was there on the ground unconscious. From where you were, you could see that his leg was twisted. His head was bleeding and started to pool around him. 

    The Titan was distracted. Perfect. You shot wires into a building next to it. As soon as you landed on the building, you hung there. You let the wires go as you did a backflip in mid air and aimed the wires to the neck. You pulled the trigger and yelled a battle cry. Your blades started at your shoulders and as soon as you sliced the Titan , it ended up towards the side. You shot your wires towards the ground. As soon as our feet felt the ground, you ran towards Mesik. 

    "Mesik!" you yelled. You pulled the boy up in your arms, he cracked one of his green eyes open. You cradled him gently. You didn't know this boy but you felt sorry for him. 

    "Did....did..I do it?" he asked barely above a whisper. 

    "Yeah." you said. "Smile." you reminded him. He did as he closed his eyes. You froze. You put two fingers into his neck, feeling for a heartbeat. At first, there was nothing but there was a fait throb and then another. 

    "(Lastname!)" Seth ran towards you. "Is Mesik alive?" 

    "Yes! He needs medical tension immediately or he will die!" 

    "Very well. You must take him." Seth said. 

    "I can't, sir." You looked up at your superior. You couldn't believe that you were already disobeying but you had your reasons. 

    "Why?" he didn't sound angry but he wanted to know why. 
    
    "I won't be able to protect him." you said. "If he goes with you and Vien, he'll live. I will stay with Clo and continue my duty." 

    "Are you aware of what your doing?" He asked you. 

    You mearly saluted. "I am giving my heart to Humanity, sir!" 

    "Very well." Seth said. He saluted you. "I hope you survive Cadet!" He gathered Mesik and flew towards the safety of the Walls.

    "I hope so too, sir." You looked at your first Titan kill. Not bad for your first ten minutes in battle.

    You ran and pulled your trigger. Soon, you were flying through Trost looking for Titans to kill. The city was already in carnage. You hoped your grandparents made it out. There was steam rising, building destroyed, fires roaring and you would see the blood splatter very clearly. The blood of you comrades. Who could it have been? Mariana? Flynn? Armin's? You wanted to stop and allow yourself to cry but you couldn't.

    One promise, that's all you had to keep. You will live and see the outside world that people scoffed about. You will live and  join the Survey Corps. You will live and become a scientist for the Military. 

    The only thing you wouldn't do was die.
